QCA - RSS Centre Review of Handling Data and Statistics in GCSE Mathematics

AFMS reportThis project was carried out by the Royal Statistical Society Centre for Statistical Education at Nottingham Trent University in four phases covering the period 1 March 2005 to 31 December 2006. It reviewed the statistics and data handling content of GCSE to determine what should be retained as part of the core curriculum for mathematics and what may be beneficially seeded for delivery through other subjects, particularly science.

Teaching Statistics Trust

The Teaching Statistics Trust is funding a 1-year research project to investigate how well qualified new teacher trainees are in statistics knowledge and pedagogy for secondary education.

The aims are to:

  1. survey the extent and form of UK:
    • PGCE Mathematics/MEC courses;
    • PGCE courses in other relevant subjects;
    • BEd courses with respect to the delivery of statistics content and pedagogy.
  2. survey a range of newly qualified teachers, trainee teachers and education lecturers about their attitudes to and knowledge of teaching statistics;
