
The Lancaster Postgraduate Statistics Centre has the core aim of promoting excellence in teaching statistics to postgraduates across a range of disciplines.
It was established in 2005 with a large HEFCE grant to fund a Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL).For those wanting to continue in higher education, there are two MSc programmes and a PhD programme. The MSc in Statistics offers pathways in Medical, Pharmaceutical and Environmental statistics and is suitable for those with a maths and statistics background wanting to study to be a professional statistician. The MSc in Applied Social Statistics is for anyone wishing to improve their quantitative skills who are numerate and have an interest in social and health statistics.This course can be taken part-time as part of a continuing professional development programme. New for 2010 there will be the opportunity to take the RSS CERTIFICATE IN TEACHING STATISTICS (up to pre-university level) as part of the MSc! A new MSc in Quantitative Finance is also due to begin in 2010, joint with Lancaster University Management School. For those in employment, wishing to improve their statistical skills, the centre regularly runs a range of short professional development courses, introductory workshops and masterclasses.
