On this page you will find details of some specific
programmes and a list of other
centres with work/academic links and
some individual courses where
universities are linking with employers.
You will also find a list of university statistics
departments who have courses with students on placement.
The Shell Technology Enterprise Programme (STEP)
STEP places undergraduates in their penultimate
year of study in Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to undertake
specific project-based assignments for eight weeks in the summer
vacation. All projects start in July or August. The students are
paid a training allowance of a minimum of £100/week and the
companies may be eligible for a subsidy of 50% of this. Students
are asked to assess their own strengths and weaknesses throughout
the placement in areas such as working in teams, planning and
prioritising objectives and presentation skills.
These are organised locally, for example here are
details from County
Durham and Darlington.
