The Project has been running a series of workshops with the following Aims and Programme :
To bring together academic teachers of undergraduate statistics with employers of graduates who have to use statistics and some of these graduates to: explore the expectations and experiences of the different groups; identify any areas of mismatch; explore ways in which any mismatch is being/could be met begin to develop case studies to give insight into the nature of the mismatch problems that could themselves be used for possible future teaching/training.
10.00 Welcome and introduction. Background to the project. General aims and objectives. Specific aims of this seminar. Initial views of individual participants.
11.00 Coffee
11.20 Views of individual participants - continued. Exploring the issues from the different perspectives. Examples of what is being done. Identify general needs.
12.30 Lunch
1.30 Work in pairs/small groups to look at how the problems appear in different specific subject areas. Identify examples which can be used as case studies.
3.00 Tea/coffee
3.20 Reporting back. Summary of the day. Future directions of the project.
4.00 End
So far, workshops have been held in Nottingham , at SPSS in Woking, at the RSS in London and at Glasgow.
